Lilac Bell
Sweet
Lilac Bell plants produce high yields of 4.5-inch, three to four lobed peppers that mature from yellow to lilac, then red ripe. The crisp, crunchy fruit has a mild, refreshing sweetness with a slight earthy note. The fruit’s flavor deepens as they ripen, shifting from lightly grassy to fuller and sweeter. Their striking purple color makes them popular for gourmet dishes, veggie trays, summer salads, and coleslaw. Enjoy them stuffed, roasted, or grilled; red ripe fruit can also be frozen and then later used for soups, stews and sauces. Heirloom.
Bell peppers are native to Central and Northern South America. After being brought to Spain in the 1490s, they spread throughout Europe and Asia, then later reached North America with early European settlers. Today, bell peppers are among the world’s best-known peppers, with dozens of varieties developed for gourmet cooking and everyday culinary use.
