Very Hot to Extremely Hot

The Fatalii habanero pepper originated in the Amazon Basin and was brought to Africa by Portuguese traders in the late 1500s. The wrinkled, elongated pods taper to a point and grow up to 3 inches long and are bright lemon yellow when ripe. The pepper has a very distinctive citrus flavor with lemon-lime notes and a fruity aroma, balanced by an immediate, searing heat. Fatalii peppers are widely used in Central, Western and Southern African cuisine, where their citrusy flavor makes them especially popular for seasoning meats, soups, stews, and especially seafood.

Did you know? Humidity can reduce the viability of pepper seeds over time, causing seeds to stagnate. That’s why every seed pack includes a silica gel packet to help keep the seeds dry and fresh. To save seeds for next year, place the seed packet and silica gel packet together in a quart-size freezer bag, seal it, and store it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
