Extremely Hot

In the early 1990s, this habanero varietty was discovered as a natural chance mutation growing among standard habaneros on an Amish farm in Pennsylvania. The farmer saved seeds from the distinctive pods and stabilized the variety now known as Devil's Tongue Yellow Habanero. The twisted, folded fruit grows 2 to 4 inches long and ripens to a vibrant yellow, resembling a misshapen devil's tongue. Harvest fruit when they are fully yellow for the best flavor, which is highly aromatic, sweet, fruity, and citrusy, with hints of lemon, subtle nuttiness, and fiery heat. Excellent for hot sauces, fiery salsa, tropical marinades, or drying and grinding for spice. Plants produce heavy yields. Considered very rare. Modern heirloom.

Did you know? Humidity can reduce the viability of pepper seeds over time, causing  seeds to stagnate. That’s why every seed pack includes a silica gel packet to help keep the seeds dry and fresh. To save seeds for next year, place the seed packet and silica gel packet together in a quart-size freezer bag, seal it, and store it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
