Black Olive
Medium Heat
Black Olive is an ornamental pepper plant with greenish purple to black foliage and purple flowers that yield clusters of small, 1- to 2-inch fruit. The slightly conical peppers start purple-black and ripen to wine red. Their moderate heat is balanced by green herb notes, light earthy undertones, and a peppery finish, becoming slightly sweeter when fully ripe. Use them in stir-fries, pickled, chili oils, or dried and ground for spice. Bred from Indigenous Mesoamerican pepper varieties, Black Olive won the 2012 All-America Selections Flower Award. Modern heirloom.
